In early 2020, the world was greatly impacted by the effects of COVID-19.  The safety precautions and ways businesses can effectively operate are changing the way life will operate over the next year.  The same is true of schools and educational non-profit organizations.

 

We are being proactive in this approach by offerings all programming virtually for the fall of 2020.

Each section (article) will provide information for the specific event, registration information, as well as marketing/PR information for the specific event.  Click each program link for more details. 

 

While some of these programs will remain virtual, we hope to see many of our programs return to in person operations in the spring semester of 2021.

 

Students may participate in more than one program.  The chart below will show how many programs a student can particpate in and the discounts attached to each of the bundle packages and the credits offered to spring 2021 in-person programs.  *Programs eligible for bundle package include: Junior Youth Assembly, Youth Assembly, Georgia United Nations Assembly, and Youth Judicial Program.  If a student chooses to participate in one (1) virtual event in the fall, the price is $125.00 and the student will then receive a $25.00 credit to put towards one in-person program in the spring (second) semester.  If a student chooses to participate in two (2) virtual events in the fall, the price is $200.00 and the student will then receive a $50.00 credit to put towards one in-person program in the spring (second) semester.  If a student chooses to participate in three (3) virtual events in the fall, the price is $275.00 and the student will then receive a $75.00 credit to put towards one in-person program in the spring (second) semester.  Families registering more than one student may email This email address is being protected from spambots. YOUTH VOTE GEORGIA (STATEWIDE MOCK ELECTION) YOUth VOTE Georgia Logo 2
 
 
 

The Virtual Leadership Series was launched in 2020 as a way to keep students engaged via distance learning as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The Youth Vote Georgia Program will allow all students in Georgia's middle and high schools, whether public of private to participate in this statewide mock election.  Voting is an important principle to the continued success of our democracy and we hope that this mock election will inspire young voters to particpate in future elections by casting a vote.  Detailed program information and module breakout will be provided prior to program dates.

 YOUTH COUNTY COMMISSIONER LEADERS PROGRAM YCCLP LOGO

The Virtual Leadership Series was launched in 2020 as a way to keep students engaged via distance learning as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic..  The Youth County Commissioner Leaders Program will allow around 159 high school students to participate in a series to learn about how local county government operates.  This specific leadership series is broken into five module sessions and concludes with participants obtaining a certificate of completion.  Detailed program information and module breakout will be provided prior to program dates.

YOUTH COUNTY COMMISSIONER LEADERS PROGRAM YGEMLP LOGO

 

The Virtual Leadership Series was launched in 2020 as a way to keep students engaged via distance learning as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic..  The Youth Georgia Executive Management Leaders Program will allow around 120 high school students to participate in a series to learn about how the executive branch of Georgia operates.  In more detail, they will learn about the agency/department they represent and work on submitting budget requests for the Governor to include in the budget for legislative approval.  This specific leadership series is broken into five module sessions and concludes with participants obtaining a certificate of completion.  Detailed program information and module breakout will be provided prior to program dates.

JUNIOR YOUTH ASSEMBLY PROGRAM

The virtual Junior Youth Assembly is a five-day learning opportunity for middle school students, grades 6-8, designed to give participants an experience in the operation of Georgia's State Government (legislative branch). Legislators meet in committees (virtual) and in the House and Senate chambers (virtual) to debate legislation. Students are given an opportunity to discuss current state issues with fellow participants via this virtual platform.

Volunteers, along with GCCE staff, help guide the students through mock committee meetings and legislative procedures. Students debate and vote on bills that their fellow delegates have written and presented. Bills that pass in committee are then taken to the floor of the House or Senate for full debate and vote.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH JUDICIAL PROGRAM

YOUTH JUDICIAL Logo

 The goal of the Judicial Program is to expose Georgia high school students to the formal judicial process through pre-trial analysis, discovery, brief writing, and the presentation of a trial to a court of judges. The program promotes leadership through the appointment of a Associate Youth Justices, and typically a Chief Justice and the use of practicing attorneys who not only judge the students, but also serve as mentors. The Judicial Program also promotes collaboration and compromise through the use of teams of attorneys and teams of judges working together to accomplish their goals.

YOUTH ASSEMBLY PROGRAM

The purpose of this five-day learning opportunity is to bring the workings of the Georgia state government alive to students in grades 9 - 12. Students are given an opportunity to discuss current state issues with state administrators, elected officials, and students from high schools throughout the state.  There are two date options of this program for students to choose according to which dates worth best.

Each conference is led by teens elected to office by their fellow delegates.

Held virtually over the course of one week, volunteers from various state departments act as resources for the students while they debate the issues. These volunteers, along with State YMCA staff, help guide the students through mock committee meetings and procedures. Students debate and vote on the bills that their fellow delegates have written and presented. Bills that pass in committee are then taken to the floor of the House or Senate for full debate and vote.

Youth hold the offices of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House. Participants also engage in campaigns and elections for officers who will serve during the following year.

GEORGIA UNITED NATIONS ASSEMBLY PROGRAM

Georgia United Nations Assembly (GUNA) is a simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about civics, effective communication, globalization and, multilateral diplomacy.

  • In GUNA, students take on roles as ambassadors and participate in a simulated session of an intergovernmental organization.
  • Participants research a country, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems.
  • During a simulation they must employ a variety of communications and critical thinking skills to defend and advance the policies of their country.
  • This program is designed for students in grades 6 - 12. *Some schools may do 5-8 or 8-12 for grades depending on how the school divides grades.
  • The program operates Junior GUNA (grades 6-8) and Senior GUNA (grades 9-12), each program is a 5-day program held virtually in December. 

What Students Gain at GUNA:

  • Expanded awareness of the world and world issues.
  • New friends, confidence, fun, and a great time with a purpose.
  • Experience with communication, consensus building, and compromise so important in international affairs.
  • Increased knowledge of other nations' history, culture, national interests, and international policies.
  • Sharpened skills of research, writing, speaking before others, and working with peers and adults.
