Welcome to the virtual "front porch" of the Georgia Center for Civic Engagement!
The purpose of the Center is to address the decline in civic knowledge among students in Georgia. We propose to achieve this through two primary methods:
- Providing opportunities for students to become engaged with government through simulations and other experiential programs, and
- Providing opportunities for continued education through workshops as well as resources for Social Studies educators to enhance the delivery of their classroom content.
Our programs are based on Dewey's model of "learning by doing." The underlying goal of our student experiential programs is to teach students that "democracy is not a spectator sport." By teaching students how government works, we empower them to use their voice to influence their communities both now and in the future.
